OF ALL the ugly mugs in Queensland, the team at Novotel Brisbane reckon they’ve found the best – and they’re not from among the State of Origin Rugby League side. The hotel’s Two Donkeys cafe has introduced an alternative to the disposable coffee cups ordinarily offered with a flat white, instead providing guests with a choice of re-useable “ugly mugs”. Staff have sourced “the very best novelty and nanna mugs” from among Brisbane’s local charity shops and give customers a 50c discount when they take the more environmentally friendly choice. SriLankan determined to succeed

SRILANKAN Airlines made a big splash in Melbourne (TD yesterday) when UL604 touched down mid-afternoon complete with dignitaries, dancers and some cricketing royalty. The new route, the only non-stop flight between Australia and Colombo, is operating daily with ceo Captain Suren Ratwate telling TD the carrier had high aspirations for the flight. “We’re here, we’re daily and we’re going to make it work,” he said, before cutting the ceremonial ribbon (above) with the help of Melbourne Airport chief of aviation Simon Gandy. MALAYSIA Airlines and Bangkok Airways recently hosted a Magellan Travel Group incentive famil to the Thai Islands, run in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Not so scary Halloween

DISNEY has taken 19 agents from across Australia and New Zealand on its second annual Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Mega Famil. The group, pictured, hit the ground running across the entire Walt Disney World Resort. Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines transported the agents from Down Under to Disney’s mammoth Orlando theme park. So far the agents have explored Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Pandora — The World of Avatar, Magic Kingdom Park and the historic Walt Disney World Resort Railroad. Qantas 787 schedule

QANTAS has released deployment details for its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which will operate domestic flights ahead of its launch on the MEL-LAX route on 15 Dec. The aircraft will fly between Melbourne and Perth tomorrow and Thu, then a mix of MEL-PER and SYD-MEL flights Mon to Fri until 14 Dec. On weekends it will operate morning and afternoon services between SYD and MEL. Flights are subject to regulatory approval and may be operated by an A330 if required.
